Blepharitis

Blepharitis is an irritating condition that affects many individuals.

Characterized by swollen, red eyes and painful styes and cysts along the lash line, its signs are unmistakable when it flares up. It can be caused by a variety of bacteria or exacerbated due to pre-existing skin conditions like rosacea, acne, or eczema–even lack of proper facial hygiene may worsen symptoms. As such, special care must be taken to ensure this pesky culprit does not impede one’s quality of life any further than necessary!

Blue Light And Eye Health

Our eyes may be taking a hit from the digital age – blue light, naturally produced by the sun and emitted from electronic devices such as phones and tablets is known to contribute to cataracts, AMD, and other vision-related issues.

While we wait for more studies to determine its long-term effects on our health, there are small steps that can reduce strain caused by overexposure; understanding risk factors can alert us when it’s time to take those preventive measures necessary for eye protection.

Cataracts

Cataracts are a common eye condition that causes the lens to become clouded, resulting in vision loss.

If left untreated, it could lead to blindness – though thankfully, there is an easy fix: surgery! During this process, light that normally passes through the lens and focuses onto the retina can no longer do so due to the opacification of the lens.

Cataract Surgery

New technology is helping to revolutionize how cataracts are treated, with laser surgery becoming an increasingly popular choice.

Relying on bladeless procedures and a personalized eye map for ultimate precision, this advancement in surgical care has empowered millions of Americans over 50 – usually most at risk from vision loss due to cataracts–to regain their sight safely and effectively.

Conjunctivitis

Conjunctivitis is an all-too-familiar irritation of the outer layer surrounding your eyes.

Seemingly innocuous things like dust or makeup can cause it to flare up and make life a bit uncomfortable while you wait for symptoms to subside (which they will – if washed and kept clean!). Knowing what triggers this common discomfort enables us to take proactive steps toward preventing future episodes, so we don’t have another pink encounter!

Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetes can have dangerous and far-reaching effects, including diabetic retinopathy – an eye disease that affects upwards of 80% of people with diabetes who’ve had the condition for ten or more years.

But thorough education on this ocular manifestation could reduce 90% of cases! Though it may go unnoticed in its early stages if left untreated, permanent vision loss is possible as diabetes continues to take effect. Diagnosis requires a doctor’s consultation; knowing your particular form unlocks the possibility of timely treatment – preserving clarity and quality of life too!

Dry Eye Syndrome

Dry eye syndrome can be a nuisance to those who suffer from it; the eyes don’t produce enough tears, or they are too thin for proper lubrication.

These irregularities take away our precious clear vision and leave us less comfortable in our environment. However, with various treatments such as eye drops or lifestyle changes like using a humidifier at night, this chronic problem doesn’t have to interfere with your quality of life!

Eye Exam

Don’t wait until it’s too late – from day one, your eyes need the care and attention that comes with an eye health examination.

Regular, comprehensive assessments throughout life are key to maintaining optimal visual performance and checking for any surprising changes in vision or underlying issues requiring prompt treatment. Invest in yourself; have those peepers checked!

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a progressive and unfortunate condition causing irreversible vision loss that affects millions of people worldwide.

Due to the disruption in drainage canals within the eye leading to an increase in inner eye pressure (IOP), it remains second only to cataracts as one of the foremost causes of blindness across both genders and all age groups. While blocked entrances impede drainage capabilities for some individuals – preventing fluid from leaving or entering- other cases involve build-up further within these intricate pathways, ultimately leading to this incurable loss.

Retinal Tears and Detachments

Our vision depends on a delicate layer of tissue in the eye called the retina.

Without it, we can’t see anything—but unfortunately, this sensitive lining is prone to damage and tears.Aging, trauma, or surgery that compromises its structure may lead to retinal tears or detachments threatening our ability to enjoy clear sight. Fortunately, solutions are available for those suffering!

Orthokeratology

Have you ever heard of Myopia, the medical term for nearsightedness?

This vision impairment has impacted millions across America, but advancements in eye care have temporarily made it possible to end this refraction error. Through Orthokeratology, those with mild myopia can experience clear-eyed sight without having permanent corrective measures taken!

Vision Therapy

Our eyes provide a gateway to the world – aiding our experiences and allowing us to observe and comprehend.

However, this special connection wouldn’t be possible without vision therapy: an innovative form of physical treatment that strengthens the eye muscles and vital neurological pathways back into our brains! Through these two organs working in tandem, we gain clear sight; if either one is unbalanced or impaired, then clarity may become hazy or even lost altogether.

FAQs

How often do I need an eye exam?

Usually a person should have a complete eye exam every year. Sometimes there are ocular health changes that are occurring and you don’t feel or visually see and these are important to detect as early as possible. We recommend all children get their eyes checked as early as age one, but definitely before they start school around age 5.

What is a contact lens fitting?

Contact lens wears need certain testing done that falls outside of an annual routine eye exam.
These tests can often be performed on the same day as your eye exam but often have an
additional cost. The cost will vary depending on the complexity of the contact lenses that are
being worn, but it starts at $75.

What services do you provide?

We provide comprehensive medical eye care for children to geriatric. We specialize in dry eye disease, acute/chronic red eyes, glaucoma and glasses/contact lens needs. We are unable to perform any surgical procedures but we will be happy to diagnose the condition, review all of the possible treatments and help you get to the appropriate surgeon for proper care.

What insurances do you take?

The insurance world is a confusing and ever changing space. We are in network with most
plans and we offer a generous same day payment discount for those without insurance. Please feel free to call our office and we would be happy to see if your insurance is one that we accept.

Will I get my eyes dilated?

If we have never seen you before it is very likely that you will get your eyes dilated. Dilation is
really the only way to see the far peripheral structure of the inside of your eye. If you are
diabetic or have other health conditions it is highly recommended that you get your eyes dilated.
